Why a Kenyan manufacturer is missing from AI answers
Oscar Radido Oyomba, Founder and Director, Savanna Digital Labs · Published 15 Oct 2026 · AI visibility / GEO / local SEO
An anonymised audit by Savanna Digital Labs, 2 October 2026. Client name withheld.
In short
When customers ask AI tools what to buy, this manufacturer was almost never named. The cause was not a lack of content. It was brand confusion and facts that contradicted each other across the places AI tools read.
The audit
We tested what a customer would actually see:
- 10 questions customers really ask, brand and non-brand
- 4 AI tools, logging who is named, which facts appear and which sources are cited
- 8 local searches in Google Maps, logging rank, rating, reviews and owner replies
Results vary from run to run, so treat this as a snapshot, not a guarantee.
What we found
- Rarely named. The brand appeared in 4 of 20 non-brand AI answers. It was named only when the question asked for a list of brands, never when a customer asked what to buy.
- Blended with a foreign parent. The company shares a name with a parent company abroad. Products and pages from another country appeared in the answers.
- Its own sources contradicted each other. AI tools repeated the errors and invented prices.
- Weak local presence. Two Google listings existed, one unclaimed. The brand had the best rating among local rivals, but few reviews, no owner replies, and appeared in only 1 of 8 local searches.
What we recommended
Fix the facts before buying reach.
- Build one owned facts page: name, places, contacts, price policy and product range.
- Repeat the same facts on the website, Google profile, directories and press, social bios, and WhatsApp or bot answers.
- Publish a dated price list or a clear pricing policy, so AI tools stop guessing.
- Claim and merge the duplicate Google listing, then ask real customers for reviews and reply to every one.
- Give the facts one owner and one change log, and review monthly. Fix the source first, then the copies.
Status and next step
The recommendations above are in progress. We will repeat the same audit at day 90 and publish the movement here. No results are claimed until then.
